Nearly half the population of Cambodia is of children under the age of 15. In Siem Reap, you are greeted by children everywhere with various expressions. Some faces light up with smiles, some remain shy. At tourist areas like the temples, the older ones surround you, selling drinks, scarfs, guide books and souvenirs.
Here is a collection of some of the photos taken of the children we met along the trip.

Nicely captured! I like the 3rd and 5th pictures.
I’ll be going to Siem Reap soon. Can’t wait.
Ah… Sweet and innocent!
They really tell us a lot – You don’t have to be rich to be happy!
love the different face expressions. pictures of purity, innocence and beauty.
Ian, Randi, Bengbeng: thanks!
mylo: wishing you a Happy Chinese New Year, good health and prosperity for the year of the tiger!
Che-Cheh: when will u be going to siem reap? it’ll be a great experience! let me know if u have certain questions with ur itinerary – may be able to help a li’l since i was just there recently.
Indrani, Londoncaller, life ramblings : the young ones look really innocent and happy to see new faces of tourists. however although tourism is helping the country’s economy, poverty is still a problem they are facing. as they grow older, many of them are trained to sell things or ask for money with many stories they come up with. it’s quite sad but there are several non-profit organisations set up to actively help the kids of Cambodia so that they have a better lifestyle.
Cool – they are really good – you are a real pro! How did you get so good =)))
jannie: hey thanks for the compliment
. i enjoy taking child portraits and it helps when the subject is full of expression. seeking to improve still
Beautiful children’s portraits! They are just so gorgeous! It is so interesting that half of the population are the children under 15. Wow, there must have lots of schools built there, unless some of the children are not in school..
Such beautiful faces, and beautifully captured!
micki: unfortunately, only a limited number of children obtain proper education & there is also a high infant mortality rate.
helen: great to see u here & thanks for having a look. the children are really sweet.
Wonderful children portraits! How did you ask them to pose for you? I haven’t got the gut to the same…
cecil: for most of the photos, it was a natural pose. they just looked right at the camera when they saw me holding it up. they were really more than happy to pose, wave, do the peace sign. there were a few times though that their parent/guardian was around and when i asked the adult -pointing at the camera and say photo? they’d ask for USD1 – those i didn’t snap.
wow… you were taking lots of nice pictures in cambodia ya!!! i only managed to snap couples of pictures with the kids and monks… but i enjoyed talking with the people… some of the monk speak japanese.. .so it’s easier for me to get closer to them
some of them even offer me a free lodging at their temples… will do so the best time i visit angkor wat again
fufu: the local monks can speak japanese.. wow. that would be an experience.. to stay with them at the temples!
Lovely pictures! The children are all so beautiful, such a treasure. I wish we took better care of them.
nothingprofounnd: they are indeed. i hope the country’s economy does improve soon.
