Here we have Manraj turning one year old. It was a party with endless activities from sand art to tattoo painting, music games, magic performances, as well as the appearance of special guest Barney. The kids (and the adults too) surely had a blast with the entertainment. Thanks to Manraj’s mum for allowing me to cover this fun-filled event. Happy 1st Birthday Manraj!

lee, you are really good in taking candid photos. your portrait shots are so lively.
i forgot to ask you what’s your gears and lens? and any tips on taking good portraits? Ü
what a colourful series of photos! And that pinch.. ouch lol
Great birthday party and great photos! Wow, Barney visited the party! Looks like Barney is also popular in Malaysia~~
Oh my goodness…Barney was there
Another beautiful series of birthday photos! The third picture from the bottom is my FAVORITE! I can feel the LOVE – a combination of beautiful smile and Manraj’s innocent look. SUPERB! Is that Manraj’s mum?
chyng: i try as much as possible to capture joyful moments during an event hoping that they can serve as good memories. I use a Nikon D90 & for parties like these, I usually use the Tamron 18-50mm f2.8. As for tips for portraits esp kids, during events like these, gotta be always on my feet to anticipate the moment. Usu when they’re distracted or in the midst of having fun, they are less camera conscious and their expressions are most natural then. oh and it also helps to share with them the photo we take of them on the LCD.
eunice: haha due to his adorable cheeks… i usu wonder what the child feels during these times haha.
micki: yes… Barney’s popular here – think it’s mostly due to the tv programme influence. i have to say i do think their songs are catchy and the child actors/actresses are pretty talented. Barney’s a big thing with kids in Taiwan too?
mylo: yes Barney was there… and the kids adored him.. hugging him and all. well he is very huggable and with the sing-a-long songs played, i wanted to join in and sing along myself!
& yup that’s Manraj’s mum, laughing whole heartedly with her bundle of joy
nice set of photos bro… barney! XD i think u meant Tamron 17-50mm f2.8 lens rite?
Happy birthday Manraj!
So happy can paint some colors on the face!
The kids are so cute, nice photos series!
henry: oops typo above. yup the 17-50mm tamron.
rafael: they sure look like they’re enjoyin it
notes taken. i never thought a tamron lens can produce those quality shots.
will try to save money for this. Ü
chyng: generally the tamron lens is a good buy. however there have been several reported quality control issues with the units including the first unit i got. I actually had a front focusing problem with the first unit that was delivered. Had it returned and replaced with a new unit. Also, on rare occasions, when shooting on burst mode, it may not focus & there are times got to switch off and on again for it to focus again. So always need backup lens.
mine’s the tamron 17-50mm VC for nikon (there’s the non-vc version too). for canon, not sure if the quality of the units are more consistent or not.
That’s one cool looking spider on the boy’s face. Face painting is great fun for kids.
nice…very colourful
happy birthday to manraj!
Great candid shots again! I haven’t paired anything else with my Nikon D80 except a Nikon prime lens. Was thinking of Tamron or Sigma before but couldn’t even decide. At least I get to see some results from you.
Such happy moments, and u captured it all. Great shots!
Mei Teng: i liked the striking spider web too
fufu, horsoon: tq!
Nomadic Pinoy: your travel shots are very sharp…. which special single prime lens do u use?
do you know where they hire that barney from? i’m planning to hav barney for my daughter coming bday party.
