If you go to Cetara make sure you buy a small bottle of “colatura di alici”, with the recipe to make a sauce for pasta with it. It’s a unique local dish.

Positano is prime location along the Amalfi coast and one of the finest locations. However another fantastic picturesque town which rarely gets a mention when talking Amalfi coast is the town of Cetara! Stunning views especially at night! Worth taking a trip there!

Certainly very colourful and eventful! I have an aunt who lives in Naples and although enjoy going there, I’m always on edge walking through some of the sides streets in Naples. Nevertheless this is a fascinating city rich in culture and heritage. The Italians have a famous saying about Naples..”Vedi Napoli e poi muori.” (See Naples and then die) The belief behind this proverb was that having seen Naples which is so beautiful there would be nothing else to live for!

Penang is still THE PLACE where you meet the history of Straits Chinese. Don`t repeat the mistakes of S`pore. 20 years ago there were still some old villas in the city, now everything is “perfect” and clean. I remenber some buildings in Penang which disappeared : the old Asrama Belia – a beautiful old house, and the Wan Hai Hotel with it`s beautifull roofgarden.

I’m alyssa’s mummy the cake is actually 100% baby friendly so its not all sugar. the outer layer doesnt have a lot of it, so unlike the usual cakes you see at the store the surface isnt really smooth.

Sir,

I am a university lecturer and at the moment I am enjoying my retirement in Perth. l have been away in Australia for more than half of my life. All this time, I am unaware of the relevance of the Penang Chew Jetty. Before coming to Perth, I stayed and schooled in Kulim. My father moved from Penang to live in Kulim before I was born. Even before I knew it, I always wondered why, whenever we caught a ferry across from Butterworth, that I was attracted to walk around Weld Quay and look between the fishing boats despite the pong of bad eggs!

My father have not spoken to me about the Chew Jetty. Long after the his passing on, I came to know that he actually lived in Chew Jetty and worked in an office in the Penang Clock Tower nearby. Often, he would have caught a fishing boat to go across the straits to Prai/Butterworth. Instinctively, I need to return to Penang to visit the places my father lived and worked. What a great way to love and remember my father by being able to share a little bit of his way of life back during those days!

Have enjoyed reading all info and comments about Penang. I’m going in late April this year and want to have a look at, and hopefully buy, some good quality local crafts. Are craft products easily found for sale, or are most of the shops selling trashy, cheap souvenirs, or alternatively, the usual international brands that you can find all over the world (who needs more of that stuff anyway!)? I hope to find items that truly express Penang and its wonderful, diverse cultural heritage. Any info. and advice you can give me will be much appreciated. Did I say I love your photographs?

Hi Aerial! Thanks for dropping by This was at Cinnamon Coffee House at One World Hotel. The photos were taken at a glass-house-like-place outside the coffee house, so there was lots of light and the floor laid out with the rubber mat so it was child friendly for the kids!

chyng: generally the tamron lens is a good buy. however there have been several reported quality control issues with the units including the first unit i got. I actually had a front focusing problem with the first unit that was delivered. Had it returned and replaced with a new unit. Also, on rare occasions, when shooting on burst mode, it may not focus & there are times got to switch off and on again for it to focus again. So always need backup lens.
mine’s the tamron 17-50mm VC for nikon (there’s the non-vc version too). for canon, not sure if the quality of the units are more consistent or not.

chyng: i try as much as possible to capture joyful moments during an event hoping that they can serve as good memories. I use a Nikon D90 & for parties like these, I usually use the Tamron 18-50mm f2.8. As for tips for portraits esp kids, during events like these, gotta be always on my feet to anticipate the moment. Usu when they’re distracted or in the midst of having fun, they are less camera conscious and their expressions are most natural then. oh and it also helps to share with them the photo we take of them on the LCD.

i eat it like once every monthish and used to bought from website hongkong-bird-nest.50webs.com/index_e.htm sometimes, my mom went back to hong kong and bought a full suitcase of it cause its cheaper there XD

I was going to ask you what lens you were using for your portraits. 50 mm prime lens is such a great lens, great for portraits! Awesome shots! I am sure mommy is all happy about these lovely sets!
